the Soul City pendants
After initially offering to fabricate pendant lights for the cafe of Soul City Church’s building expansion in Chicago’s West Loop neighborhood, I was invited instead to imagine lighting for the new building’s 3-story, street facing atrium. The result was one hundred concrete pendant lights, each at a unique height evenly spaced between the architect’s minimum and maximum, arranged in four rows and randomized. With the exception of four, whose unique color and precise alignment are only visible from a single vantage point.
